The STEAP4 (Six-Transmembrane Epithelial Antigen of the Prostate 4) antibody is a tool used to detect and study the STEAP4 protein, a member of the STEAP family involved in metal ion transport, redox regulation, and cellular metabolism. STEAP4. also known as TNFAIP15. is a transmembrane protein enriched in endosomes and the plasma membrane. It plays roles in iron/copper homeostasis, insulin signaling, and inflammatory responses. Dysregulation of STEAP4 is linked to metabolic disorders like obesity, type 2 diabetes, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, as well as cancers, including prostate and breast cancer.
Antibodies targeting STEAP4 enable researchers to investigate its expression, localization, and function in tissues or cell lines. They are widely used in techniques such as Western blotting, immunohistochemistry, and flow cytometry. These antibodies aid in exploring STEAP4's involvement in disease mechanisms, such as its role in modulating TNF-α signaling or influencing insulin receptor trafficking. Commercial STEAP4 antibodies are typically developed in hosts like rabbits or mice, with validation across specific applications. Ongoing research focuses on STEAP4's potential as a therapeutic target or biomarker, particularly in metabolic syndromes and cancer progression.
