背景信息

Recombinant human FAIM2 (Fas Apoptosis Inhibitory Molecule 2) protein is a key regulator of cell survival and apoptosis. FAIM2. also known as Lifeguard (LFG), is a transmembrane protein predominantly expressed in the nervous system. It inhibits Fas-mediated apoptosis by interacting with the Fas receptor, thereby blocking the formation of the death-inducing signaling complex (DISC). Unlike other apoptosis inhibitors like FLIP, FAIM2 specifically targets the extrinsic apoptotic pathway, playing a critical role in neuronal development and protection against neurotoxicity. Studies suggest its involvement in neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson’s, where apoptosis dysregulation contributes to pathogenesis. Recombinant FAIM2 proteins, typically produced in mammalian expression systems (e.g., HEK293 or CHO cells), retain functional domains necessary for binding Fas and modulating apoptotic signals. These proteins serve as essential tools for dissecting FAIM2's molecular mechanisms, screening therapeutic agents, and exploring its potential as a neuroprotective target. Current research focuses on clarifying its signaling crosstalk, post-translational modifications, and tissue-specific roles. The development of recombinant FAIM2 also opens avenues for therapeutic strategies aiming to enhance neuronal survival or treat apoptosis-related disorders.
