Terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase (TdT), encoded by the DNTT gene, is a specialized DNA polymerase expressed during early lymphocyte development. Unlike other DNA polymerases, TdT catalyzes template-independent addition of nucleotides to DNA ends, a critical process in generating antigen receptor diversity through V(D)J recombination.
