背景信息

Recombinant human RAET1G (Retinoic Acid Early Transcript 1G) protein, also known as ULBP5. is a member of the UL16-binding protein (ULBP)/RAET family. These proteins function as ligands for the NKG2D receptor, primarily expressed on natural killer (NK) cells and subsets of T cells, playing a critical role in immune surveillance against infections and malignancies. RAET1G is a glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-anchored cell surface protein encoded by the RAET1G gene located on human chromosome 6. It is structurally characterized by α1/α2 domains that mediate NKG2D binding, though its expression patterns and regulatory mechanisms remain less characterized compared to other ULBP family members.

Produced via recombinant DNA technology, recombinant RAET1G is typically expressed in mammalian systems (e.g., HEK293 cells) to ensure proper post-translational modifications and functional activity. Its production enables studies on NKG2D-mediated immune activation, tumor immune evasion mechanisms, and therapeutic targeting. Emerging research suggests RAET1G may contribute to antitumor responses by enhancing NK cell cytotoxicity, though some cancers exploit NKG2D ligand shedding to evade immune detection. It also holds potential as a biomarker or immunotherapeutic agent in cancer treatment. Further investigations aim to clarify its tissue-specific roles, interaction dynamics, and clinical relevance in autoimmune disorders or infectious diseases.
