The cannabinoid receptor type 1 (CNR1), also known as CB1. is a G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) predominantly expressed in the central nervous system (CNS), with roles in regulating neurotransmission, pain perception, appetite, and mood. As a key component of the endocannabinoid system, CNR1 interacts with endogenous ligands like anandamide and 2-arachidonoylglycerol (2-AG), as well as phytocannabinoids (e.g., THC) and synthetic compounds. Recombinant CNR1 protein is engineered for in vitro studies to elucidate its structure, signaling mechanisms, and therapeutic potential.
