Chromogranin A (CHGA) is a 48 kDa acidic protein belonging to the granin family, primarily stored in secretory granules of neuroendocrine cells, including neurons, endocrine cells, and neuroendocrine tumors. It plays a critical role in regulating hormone/neurotransmitter storage, secretion, and granule formation. CHGA antibodies are essential tools in research and diagnostics for detecting CHGA expression, serving as a hallmark marker for neuroendocrine differentiation.

In clinical pathology, CHGA antibodies are widely used in immunohistochemistry (IHC) to identify neuroendocrine tumors (e.g., pheochromocytoma, neuroblastoma, carcinoids) and distinguish them from non-neuroendocrine neoplasms. Elevated CHGA levels in serum or tissue correlate with tumor burden, aiding in disease monitoring. Beyond oncology, CHGA is implicated in cardiovascular and metabolic disorders, as it is co-released with catecholamines and processed into bioactive peptides (e.g., vasostatin, pancreastatin) influencing blood pressure, glucose metabolism, and inflammation.
