The SRP68 antibody is a crucial tool in studying the Signal Recognition Particle (SRP), a ribonucleoprotein complex essential for co-translational protein targeting to the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). SRP68. a 68 kDa protein, is one of six polypeptides (SRP72. SRP68. SRP54. SRP19. SRP14. and SRP9) that, along with a 7S RNA scaffold, form the SRP. This complex recognizes signal sequences on nascent secretory and membrane proteins, halts their translation, and directs the ribosome-protein complex to the ER membrane via interaction with the SRP receptor.
