背景信息

Recombinant human SLC2A3 protein, also known as glucose transporter type 3 (GLUT3), is a transmembrane protein encoded by the SLC2A3 gene. As a member of the solute carrier 2 (SLC2) family, GLUT3 primarily facilitates energy-independent glucose transport across cell membranes. It exhibits high affinity for glucose, ensuring efficient uptake even under low extracellular concentrations. Structurally, it comprises 12 membrane-spanning helices with intracellular N- and C-termini, a conserved motif among facilitative glucose transporters.

GLUT3 is predominantly expressed in neurons, where it plays a critical role in maintaining brain energy homeostasis by supplying glucose as the primary fuel for oxidative metabolism. Its expression is tightly regulated to meet the dynamic metabolic demands of neural activity.
