Granulysin (GNLY), a cytolytic and proinflammatory protein expressed in human cytotoxic T lymphocytes and natural killer (NK) cells, was first identified in the late 1990s. It belongs to the saposin-like protein family and shares structural homology with antimicrobial peptides.
