Zinc fingers and homeoboxes protein 2 (ZHX2) is a member of the ZHX family, characterized by the presence of two zinc finger motifs and five homeodomains. First identified in the early 2000s, ZHX2 is a nuclear transcription repressor that regulates gene expression through interactions with DNA or protein partners. It forms heterodimers with ZHX1 or ZHX3 and often associates with transcriptional regulators like NF-YA to modulate target genes involved in cell proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis. ZHX2 is widely expressed in tissues, with high levels observed in the liver, kidney, and brain.
