Asparagine synthetase domain-containing protein 1 (ASNSD1), also known as HEPN1. is a member of the asparagine synthetase (ASNS) family. It is encoded by the *ASNSD1* gene located on human chromosome 4q21.22. Unlike its paralog ASNS, which catalyzes asparagine biosynthesis, ASNSD1 lacks a functional glutaminase domain, rendering it enzymatically inactive as a "pseudoenzyme." Structurally, it retains a conserved ASNS domain, suggesting potential non-catalytic roles. ASNSD1 is ubiquitously expressed, with higher levels in proliferating tissues.
