Solute Carrier Family 22 Member 16 (SLC22A16), also known as OCT6 or CT2. is a polyspecific transmembrane transporter protein belonging to the organic cation transporter (OCT) subfamily. Primarily expressed in the testis, breast, liver, and hematopoietic tissues, it facilitates the cellular uptake of organic cations, zwitterions, and certain anticancer drugs. SLC22A16 is distinguished by its broad substrate specificity, transporting endogenous compounds like carnitine and exogenous agents such as doxorubicin, a chemotherapeutic anthracycline.
