ASTE1 (Asteroid homolog 1), also known as C1orf112. is a conserved eukaryotic protein encoded by the *ASTE1* gene in humans. It was initially identified through homology searches as a member of the "asteroid" protein family, named for its sequence similarity to proteins in yeast and other species.
