背景信息

OR6V1 (Olfactory Receptor Family 6 Subfamily V Member 1) is a protein encoded by the OR6V1 gene, which belongs to the olfactory receptor (OR) superfamily. As a class A G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR), it shares the characteristic seven-transmembrane domain structure and is primarily associated with odorant detection. However, like many "orphan" olfactory receptors, its specific ligands and physiological roles remain partially characterized. Notably, OR6V1 has drawn attention for its potential involvement in non-olfactory functions. Research links it to reproductive biology, with expression detected in human testis and ovaries. A 2022 study suggested its possible role in sperm maturation and fertilization processes. Additionally, altered OR6V1 expression has been observed in certain cancers, including testicular germ cell tumors and ovarian carcinomas, hinting at diagnostic or therapeutic potential. The gene is located on chromosome 1 (1q44) and exhibits polymorphisms that may influence individual variations in odor perception. While its canonical odorant-binding function remains under investigation, emerging evidence positions OR6V1 as a multifunctional protein bridging chemosensation, reproduction, and disease pathways. Its tissue-specific expression patterns and disease correlations make it a subject of interest for biomarker discovery and targeted therapy development.
