ABCG2. also known as breast cancer resistance protein (BCRP), is a member of the ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter superfamily. It plays a critical role in cellular efflux processes, transporting a wide range of endogenous and exogenous substrates, including chemotherapeutic agents, toxins, and metabolic byproducts, out of cells. This transmembrane protein is composed of two nucleotide-binding domains (NBDs) and two transmembrane domains (TMDs), forming a homodimer. ABCG2 is highly expressed in barrier tissues (e.g., placenta, blood-brain barrier, intestines, liver) where it contributes to protective functions but can also mediate multidrug resistance in cancer cells by reducing intracellular drug accumulation.
Research on ABCG2 antibodies focuses on detecting and quantifying the protein’s expression in various biological contexts. These antibodies are essential tools for studying ABCG2’s role in drug resistance, stem cell biology (e.g., side population phenotype), and tissue-specific barrier functions. They are widely used in techniques like Western blotting, immunohistochemistry, and flow cytometry. Additionally, ABCG2 dysregulation has been linked to clinical conditions such as gout (via urate transport modulation) and chemotherapy failure. High-quality ABCG2 antibodies enable researchers to investigate its expression patterns, subcellular localization, and interactions with therapeutic agents, aiding in the development of strategies to overcome drug resistance or modulate transporter activity for therapeutic benefit.
